Stadia Demise Controller
Many gamers have been speculating about what will happen to the Stadia controller since the Google Stadio service is scheduled to end on January 18, 2023. The Stadia cloud service, whose future usefulness is being questioned by many, is what the controller is made to work. Google recently announced that it would be releasing a self-service tool that would let users enable Bluetooth on their Stadia controllers.
With this update, the Stadia controller will no longer only be connected to the Stella service but will also be able to connect to other devices as a standard Bluetooth controller. Customers of Stadia will be able to use the controller with other devices after service is shut down, which is a welcome development.
Before the service ended, Google also made the final game for Stadia players available, Worm Game. The team has been testing Stadia's capabilities with the game for years, both internally and externally. Although it's a cute, minimal title, it serves as based on the experiences of Easter egg players who test and develop services.
Overall, while the service's closure is undoubtedly disappointing, it is a good development that Stadia controllers can now be used via Bluetooth, enabling players to use them with other devices. The final farewell of Worm Game is a nice touch, and it heightens the sense of déjà vu for the end of service.
